Denmark announces support to Moldova’s security and EU accession worth EUR 22 million
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, announced a new programme totalling 20 million Euro to Moldova over the next three years:
- EUR 7 million for defence sector capacity (previously announced by the Minister of Defence of Denmark)
- EUR 4 million for enhacement of emergency and crisis management
- EUR 6 million for the fight against disinformation
- EUR 3 million for strenghtening cyber security and resilience towards hybrid attacks
These new contributions aims to strenghten Moldova’s resilience against hybrid attacks.
Further, Denmark intends to allocate EUR 2 million from Denmark’s Copenhagen Pre-Accession Instrument, targeted to assist Moldovan institutions with EU accession efforts. This will finance capacity building of public institutions through training and advisory to achieve the EU membership criteria.
“During my time as Minister of Foreign Affairs, I have had the pleasure of visiting Moldova several times, and I have always met a great support for Europe and European values. But Moldova is also a vulnerable country, where Russia is trying to hinder the positive development with massive disinformation campaigns and hybrid attacks. Denmark will not stand idly by, but will contribute to Moldova's democracy being as strong as possible.” says Minister Rasmussen.
With the new contributions, Denmark has ongoing projects in Moldova worth more than EUR 60 million. This includes support to independent media, civil society, energy efficiency, rule of law, strengthening democratic institutions, and aid to refugees.
